Banknotes and Coins
Banknotes Series
The Bank of Tanzania circulating
currency notes were first introduced into circulation in February 2003.
The Banknotes series are in the denominations of TZS. 500,1000, 2000, 5000 and
10000.
All banknotes issues, in the
denominations of TZS. 10, 20, 500, 1000, 5000 and 10000, which were circulating
prior to February 2003, have been withdrawn from circulation. However,
they will henceforth continue to be exchanged only at the Bank of Tanzania.
Currently Circulating Coins
The current coins in circulation are as
follows: =/05, =/10, =/20, =/50, 1/=, 5/=, 10/=, 20/=, 50/=, 100/= and
200/=.
